September 1, 1939 – World War II began when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Britain and France declared war on Germany two days later.

September 1, 1974 – Church College of Hawaii became a branch of Brigham Young University and was renamed Brigham Young University-Hawaii Campus.

September 1, 1991 – Membership in the Church reached 8 million, about two years after membership hit the 7 million mark in December 1989.
