September 13, 1898 – President Lorenzo Snow became the president of the Church. He chose Presidents George Q. Cannon and Joseph F. Smith as counselors. Both had served as counselors to President Brigham Young, President John Taylor and President Wilford Woodruff.

September 13, 1990 – Registration of the Leningrad Branch of the Church was approved by the Council on Religious Affairs of the Council of Ministers in the Soviet Union.

September 2, 1898 – President Wilford Woodruff died at age 91 in San Francisco, California, where he had gone to seek relief from his asthma problems.

September 2, 1945 – Formal ceremonies of surrender, ending World War II – history’s deadliest and most far-reaching conflict – were held aboard the battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay. Japan had surrendered on August 14 (V-J Day); Germany on May 8 (V-E Day).
